Latest Photos
Been a long time since we have updated the website. Here is a selection of photos that we have received over the summer. First up is Angie and Debs who visited for the first time this summer and enjoyed some great fishing with plenty of fish up to 12lb.
Long time regular, the Red Trouser Man had many larger fish throughout the summer. Fishing mostly large pieces of luncheon meat, Tony took fish up to high doubles. Very few pictures available though!
This fish was around 12lb and was caught on surface pellets at the start of the summer.
This is Geoff Toone looking very pleased with a fish taken whilst visiting the lake on holiday. If you are interested in staying at our on-site holiday accommodation then check out the Old Pig Barn page.
Stefano amongst the fish
Stefano Scinto and his father in law visited the Stokesby fishery for the first time last week and on two separate days Stefano took 25 and 30 carp. It was great to see his enthusiasm on the bank and he thoroughly enjoyed his visit and had some great sport. (10 June)
Quality fishing all round
With the continuing good weather the fishing has been excellent during the last week. Shane and David Abel, regular visitors got amongst the fish at the weekend with fish to 14lb (no pictures of that one though, eh Dad!). There were at least two other doubles of 10lb and 12lb that I saw, there were probably more. All methods seemed to produce fish - lumps of luncheon meat fished on the bottom and surface fished bread and pellets often producing the bigger fish. Float fished pellets will produce bites all day long with tench up to a pound, roach and carp of all sizes. (7 June)
Holiday Cottage nearly complete
In response to a growing number of questions about our holiday accommodation the good news is we are nearly there! Having removed several tons of concrete and rubble from the area in front of the cottage, this week will see the turf is being laid. Inside the cottage is almost completely furnished with just the last finishing touches to go. Apart from some final paperwork to keep everything in order we will be ready to take bookings for September onwards. If you are interested in staying within casting distance of the fishery please email info@millroadfishery.co.uk
Gareth and Friends Here are a few photos from Gareth who has recently discovered Mill Road and has got amongst the fish. Gareth says that the fish came on a range of baits and tactics including trout pellet paste, halibut pellets and maggots. Well done to you all! (2 June)
Spawning Time
Third week in May and with the day-time temperatures consistently high the fish turned to spawning. Janet took some great photographs including this one of two double figure commons almost beaching themselves. We closed the fishery for the weekend until the fish had finished to give them the peace and quiet needed to finish the job. The fishery is now fully open and fishing its socks off!! (25 May)
Kieran Here is an impressive collection of fish sent in by Kieran Douthwaite. The youngster took these three fish, all of which weighed in at 15lb, during the first half of April. Kieran made sure he was fishing quietly and not spooking the fish and made sure to move when he couldn't find the bigger fish. All fish fell to surface baits. (25 April) Spring at last
After the longest, coldest winter for ages the lake is quickly getting back into spring mode. Although the lake had been frozen on and off for several weeks we did not lose any fish at all which was a relief. The lake filled up nicely and the overflow did its job in keeping the banks dry. A lot of last year's planting is looking really good and in fact the whole lake looks better for its enforced hibernation. The fishing is also getting going with some good fish already showing. Young Kieran has had several doubles to 15lb (were are your photos!?) and one or two regulars have also had fish over 10lb. Even I managed a fish of 14lb! With the sun out last weekend the fish were even up on the surface and Kieran and I took several fish off the top on a variety of floating baits.
Swan Lake on Ice
Christmas at Mill Road saw the lake fully frozen, a shame as I had all my tackle ready for a few sessions over the holiday, Here are two bemused looking visitors sitting on top of the ice. It would have been fun watching them come into land! Best wishes for the festive season and the New Year from Andy and Janet.
